A man with a van in the UK typically charges £30 to £50 per hour, with most jobs requiring a minimum booking of 2 hours. In Warwickshire and the Midlands, rates sit at the lower end of this range at £30 to £45 per hour.
For a small local move — a few items or a single room — expect to pay £80 to £200 depending on the distance and number of items. A full studio or 1-bed flat move within the same town costs £150 to £350.
Man with a van services are ideal for smaller jobs: moving a sofa, collecting furniture purchases, clearing a room, or transporting items to a charity shop or tip. For full house moves of 2 bedrooms or more, a proper removals service with 2 to 3 men is usually more cost-effective.
Most man with a van operators include basic loading and unloading in their hourly rate, but check before booking. Some charge extra for heavy items, stairs, or long carry distances.
Insurance varies widely — some operators carry goods-in-transit insurance while others carry none. Always ask about insurance before booking, especially for valuable items. If in doubt, take photos of your items before the move.
To save money, be as prepared as possible before the van arrives — pack everything into boxes, disassemble furniture, and have everything ready at the front door. Time is money when you are paying by the hour.
